The Red Trailer Mystery

Look what I spied at the New-To-You store last week? Now I have never read a Trixie Belden book before but this is so cute. Trixie and her rather well-to-do friend, Honey Wheeler, are off to solve a mystery. These girls actually ride inside the trailer while Honey's governess, Miss Trask, drives. When they get to their first stop, Miss Trask says, "I'm so tired I couldn't boil an egg". Of course these two amazing thirteen year olds whip up dinner. Too funny! How did I miss this series as a kid? Maybe I would have been a trailer crazy teen. I never heard of anyone naming their trailers back then, but Honey's family owns the 'Silver Swan' and of course the red trailer is named 'Robin'. I've only read two chapters but I truly think this little gem was worth all of the .25 cents I paid.

Confession # 3, I'm Not A Joiner

About a month ago I stumbled upon this Facebook group. I think I googled vintage trailer decor and this newly formed group came up in the search. So along this blogging journey I have already made two confessions. Are you ready for number three? I'm not really a 'joiner'. But I joined this group, GCC, my very first FB group, and I have to say I quite like it. The icing on the cake is that they made Betty their first cover girl! How cool is that? I had forgotten to share this with you, and then I checked the date and realized that if I didn't share this news soon there would be a new May cover girl and my 15 minutes of fame would be over. I think mom would be proud to have a trailer named after her who was chosen to be the very first cover girl of Girl Camp Canada. 

Comfy Cosy

It took me a little while to figure this out...why fold up the sofa (gaucho) bed after you use it? Now I just leave it in 'bed mode' all summer long. It's not like you gain a lot of room by folding it up. Plus, this way it's always ready for guests (or for me to crawl in there and have a nap). I have to say, nothing beats a trailer nap in the middle of the afternoon with the sun streaming in! I have a feather duvet and about eight pillows on that little bed. Every glamper needs a comfy, cosy nest!

What's In Your Closet?

Often members of Girl Camp Canada post links to campers that are for sale. As I was checking these out last week, I came across this picture. Look at all those shelves! Currently I have two shelves in my closet. One near the top with a clothes rod underneath, and another shelf near the bottom. Here's a picture taken from the magazine rack side of my dinette. It's a little hard to take pictures of the closet  because you cannot get far enough away from it.

                                                                                        

I don't have an inside closet picture of the clothes rod and shelf, but here's a picture of the bottom shelf. 

You can see the wheel-well underneath. You would almost think I had that shelf custom made to hold my 3-in-1 cooking center. It fits in there with barely an inch to spare! I'm contemplating adding two more shelves. I really don't need a clothes rod - it's not like I plan to take a ball-gown with me! But if I had two more shelves, would I just stash unneeded items there? Hmmmm. What's a girl to do?

More Beach Glass

In February, I mentioned that I like to collect sea glass or what I call 'beach glass'. I display most of it at the cottage.  Some I have in jars and they make great doorstops. On the coffee table I have this glass star where I keep my most recent finds.


Every once in a while I find 'beach china' and I keep that separate in this little dish, a gift from my dear friend, Nancy.

I adore these pieces. Some I thought were just clam shells when I stooped to pick them up, but when I turned them over they were china.  Oh happy day! But not every day is Christmas at the beach...

Don't Laugh

This is the bumper sticker that I have on display inside my trailer. I purchased it at the Canadian Tire store here in Truro. Last June when we travelled to Hubbards I taped this to Betty's back window. That way, I could give every motorist behind us something to chuckle about...Sometimes it's the little things in life that make us smile!

Hubbards Beach

This photo was taken on our first outing last June to Hubbards, on Nova Scotia's south shore. It makes me smile every time I look at it. Notice how those other rigs almost dwarf Betty? Most of the campers at Hubbards Beach Campground are 'seasonals' and they only save a few spots for daily rentals. The main reason we went to Hubbards was to meet up with some friends, and take in a dance at the well-known Shore Club. All of our friends stayed in the cottages which are located near the beach. The weather was great, but we had to put up with some unruly young campers on the Saturday night. We are returning again this year to see one of my favourite bands of all time, Minglewood! But this year we have decided to leave Betty at home and stay in the cottages with our friends. We plan to tow Betty and camp in PEI sometime in July. It will be a shorter trip as we will take the ferry both ways. If you have never been to Prince Edward Island, land of Anne, you must visit soon!

Chaise Lounge Chair

So one day
last spring when we were on our way to the cottage, I spotted this chair at a yard sale. Now I want you to know that my husband does not drive at a yard sale pace. He does not want me to spot anything, let alone buy it and drag it home. But, this time he actually stopped, turned around and we went back to the sale. For $5.00 I got this sweet chaise lounge chair! Reminds me of a blue one my mom had back in the sixties! One thing I've noticed about it though, it seems more narrow and shorter than chairs today. Were people smaller back then?

Confession # 2, I Hoard Napkins

Confession number two. I hoard napkins. I know what you're thinking...why? Well, partially because there are so many nice designs available. And they're affordable. And small. Not to mention light. That's really important when you are towing your belongings, right?

 I mean how could a person leave the store without buying these?

I've had the camper ones tucked away for a while. They were both designed by Peggy Murray for Cape Shore Designs in 2006. The polka dots are from Dollarama. Come for lunch and I'll set Betty's table with my new plates and some of these cute napkins from my stash!

This is the view from our cottage (and my little trailer). I took this picture last summer on an absolutely flat. calm. day. If you look closely you can see the clouds reflected in the water. That dark line is Prince Edward Island across the Northumberland Strait. That point of land on the right hand side is named Johnson's Point. I have walked around there a couple of times at low tide. Now I don't want to mislead you, not every day is this perfectly calm, haha. If the wind is out of the east, there is no place more miserable! But most days there is just a nice ocean breeze to cool you off, and keep the bugs away.

This was the view last Saturday. Again, it was a flat. calm. day. You can barely see PEI off in the distance. There was some open water, but the Northumberland Strait is still packed with ice. My husband and I took a walk down to the beach and returned via the road. Some of the fishermen were loading their lobster traps into the fish shed in preparation of the upcoming season which opens May 1st and runs until June 30th. You can order your lobsters and pick them up when the boats come back to the wharf around noon--Monday to Saturday. (They never fish on Sunday.) Oh my, I can hardly wait for lobster season!
