Confession # 9, My Thoughts On Pets

Confession number nine. I'm not really a pet person. What??? True. Probably the only person to ever write this in her blog. I'm not scared of animals, well, maybe snakes. But I just don't want a pet to look after. Please. Don't. Judge. Me. I know, I am probably in a very small minority, like let's say 0.0001%. My husband on the other hand would love to have a dog. Not a little dog, but a lab or a golden retriever. But I say just borrow a dog if you want a "dog fix". You see, in our cluster of 10 cottages there are a total of  8 dogs (and one cat). All shapes and sizes, all makes and models! No need to make it 9 doggies, just go ask a neighbour to borrow their pooch. There, problem solved. Ha!

Confession # 8, I Love Old Houses

I have to say that I am a little disappointed that the cottage I featured last month sold, but it did. So, time to move on. We have been to look at another property :) Not a cottage this time, but an old farmhouse! Take a peek...

Tons of charm...hasn't had many renos over the years. There are four "outbuildings". Wouldn't this one make a cute little shop after you jacked it up and put it on a solid foundation?

And I'll leave you with the view to the south looking up the road with apple trees along the property line...

Wish I was 30 years younger. I have the desire but I don't think I have the stamina, LOL.

Confession # 7, I Don't Like To Cook

This is what I look like in the kitchen. "Oh shoot, that was supposed to be a half cup of milk, not a cup!"
I really don't like to cook or bake. I just don't seem to derive any joy from it. You make a meal, a half hour later it's completely gone, then in a few hours you start all over again. So what's the point? I want someone to invent meals that look like gummy candies. You know, some are shaped like fish. A turkey dinner would be a little brown turkey; a lobster dinner would be a little red lobster. Just think how much time this would save! No more lugging in the groceries, putting them away, preparing the food, cleaning up afterwards, taking out the garbage...Just sayin'.

Confession # 6, I Stalk Vintage Trailers

I stalk vintage trailers... and one of my favourite tin cans of all time is this '54 Shasta! The first time I spotted it was about four or five years ago when I was checking out trailers for sale on eBay. I believe they were asking $10,500 for this particular trailer. I am not sure if it changed hands or not...something tells me the reserve bid was not met. It really captured my attention because they had great photos of the restoration process.  Every once in a while a photo of this Shasta will pop up on Pinterest and it makes me wonder where it is now.

                                 

I love the yellow and red color scheme! And how handy would that dolly-wheel thingy be? You could easily manoeuvre your mini-mansion around your driveway or campsite!

Here's an interior shot...gorgeous birch panelling, wall sconce and  banquette seat cushions. I have never come across a photo of the sleeping area, but I can only imagine  how sweet it is.

Confession # 5, I Love Chicken Bones

I LOVE chicken bones! No, no, not real chicken bones. I love the candy version, especially the ones made by Ganong in St. Stephen, New Brunswick.

They are a little on the expensive side, but they are so yummy! Pink, spicy, cinnamon candy filled with bittersweet chocolate. You can either let them melt in your mouth or you can crunch them to get that delicious rush of goodness! Check out this video clip if you would like to see how this delicacy is made.

Chicken bones are labour intensive, I guess that's why they are so pricey. It just wouldn't be Christmas without chicken bones! What is your favourite Christmas candy?

Confession # 4, I Go Curbside Shopping

Yes, it's time for another confession. Sometimes I have been known to go curbside shopping. Yes, it has happened once or twice in my life. Not many times, but a few. Twice a year our county has Clean Up Week where residents are encouraged to put their junk out at the curb. There are some rules and regulations, but basically you can put anything out there with the exception of electronics. So this spring on our way to the cottage I spied a wicker planter. Luckily we were towing our utility trailer and there was room for my "find". My DH said he would stop but I would have to go and get it. He didn't think I would, but I unloaded two pairs of boots from it and carried it to the trailer. It fit in just perfectly between the mower and the tail gate. This is what it looked like then...

This is what it looks like after some prep work and two cans of spray paint. Hopefully I will get it finished before the transplants are sold out. I think it will look  great at the cottage with all my other wicker pieces. Gotta love curbside shopping!

Confession # 3, I'm Not A Joiner

About a month ago I stumbled upon this Facebook group. I think I googled vintage trailer decor and this newly formed group came up in the search. So along this blogging journey I have already made two confessions. Are you ready for number three? I'm not really a 'joiner'. But I joined this group, GCC, my very first FB group, and I have to say I quite like it. The icing on the cake is that they made Betty their first cover girl! How cool is that? I had forgotten to share this with you, and then I checked the date and realized that if I didn't share this news soon there would be a new May cover girl and my 15 minutes of fame would be over. I think mom would be proud to have a trailer named after her who was chosen to be the very first cover girl of Girl Camp Canada. 

Confession # 2, I Hoard Napkins

Confession number two. I hoard napkins. I know what you're thinking...why? Well, partially because there are so many nice designs available. And they're affordable. And small. Not to mention light. That's really important when you are towing your belongings, right?

 I mean how could a person leave the store without buying these?

I've had the camper ones tucked away for a while. They were both designed by Peggy Murray for Cape Shore Designs in 2006. The polka dots are from Dollarama. Come for lunch and I'll set Betty's table with my new plates and some of these cute napkins from my stash!

Confession # 1, I Love Doin' Dishes

Big confession coming...I love to "do dishes". Yes, I love to wash dishes or dry them if someone else is washing. So imagine my joy when I found this mini sized dish drainer at a local discount store. It fits right between Betty's sink and stove. Now mind you it can only hold about two plates and two mugs, but it's not like I'm cooking Christmas dinner in my tin can, LOL. My sink doesn't have a gray water tank so I keep a dishpan in the sink. I also have another small enamel basin in case I need a little water for something. It's all pretty compact, but it seems to work! How about you, do you like to wash or dry dishes the "old school" way?
